For marketers who wish to reach the lucrative youth market, the relatively uncluttered medium of the school environment represents the final frontier access to a captive audience of millions of students. Meanwhile dwindling federal, state, and local funding for education has left many schools vulnerable to the advertisers pitch. As a result, commercialism has steadily increased in Americas public schools in recent years, often with little or no public awareness.

Captive Audience examines this growing phenomenon through numerous examples of in-school advertising; interviews with teachers, students, parents, and activists; and a case study of community action to oppose an exclusive soda contract in the Pittsburgh school district. Media scholars and critics including Alex Molnar, Professor of Education Policy, Arizona State University; Henry Giroux, Professor in Secondary Education, Pennsylvania State University; No Logo author Naomi Klein; and Bill Hoynes, Professor and Chair of Sociology, Vassar College offer a broad look at the issues at stake.

Captive Audience is a compelling expos of the transformation of classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and textbooks into advertising vehicles. It explores how education is short-changed and democracy is at risk when schools become marketplaces and commercialism goes to the head of the class.

Jean Kilbourne’s award-winning video offers an in-depth analysis of how female bodies are depicted in advertising images and the devastating effects of those images on women’s health. Addressing the relationship between these images and the obsession of girls and women with dieting and thinness, Slim Hopes offers a new way to think about life-threatening eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, and a well-documented critical perspective on the social impact of advertising.

Slim Hopes is a lively and engaging program suitable for a wide range of audiences at high schools, colleges and universities. Using over 150 ads, it informs as it entertains, allowing viewers to build an analytic framework for considering the impact of advertising on women’s health.

MIND CONTROL: A collection of various subliminal messages from, images, commercials and music. Subliminal messages are every where. Subliminal messages were made illegal in 1973 but these laws have not stopped big companies from advertising hidden messages in text, images, verbally or just plain blatantly.

Subliminal messages effect your subconscious mind and can encourage different types of behaviour. Scientists have not suggested subliminal messages as being a dangerous form of advertising but the implications subliminal messages can cause vary on the personal mental state of each individual that are exposed to them.

Subliminal messages can be used for a variety of reasons, advertising companies use them to encourage people to buy their product, military use them to interrogate suspected terrorists, the media uses them to condition our minds, movies and logos use them to build suspense and to identify their company as one.

Musicians use them for either a joke or satanic ritual. What ever the reasons and in what ever medium they are inserted into the reality of subliminal messaging varies depending on the intentions the suspected company etc are using this technique for.

Subliminal messaging is a form of mind control.

Jean Kilbourne’s pioneering work helped develop and popularize the study of gender representation in advertising. Her award-winning Killing us Softly films have influenced millions of college and high school students across two generations and on an international scale. In this important new film, Kilbourne reviews if and how the image of women in advertising has changed over the last 20 years.

With wit and warmth, Kilbourne uses over 160 ads and TV commercials to critique advertising’s image of women. By fostering creative and productive dialogue, she invites viewers to look at familiar images in a new way, that moves and empowers them to take action.

Convey-Your-Ad™ now available at Super Max Grocery Stores

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — July 10, 2008 — Devlin Media, a pioneer of new and unconventional advertising mediums, announced today a new opportunity for companies to advertise in California. Convey-Your-Ad™ is a distinctive, innovative advertising platform that allows advertisers, marketers, and grocery store owners to apply brilliant high-quality graphics to check stand conveyor belts at the grocery store. Devlin Media has developed a proprietary printing application process compatible with commercially available check stands. Besides providing advertisers with a new media space, the new belts are durable and long-lasting.
Super Max Grocery Outlet in Castroville, CA launched the Devlin Media Convey-Your-Ad™ advertising belt this week, enabling companies such as Grimmway Farms™, Dole Produce™, Sylvan Learning Center™ and others to deploy advertising directly onto the conveyor belt check stands of grocery stores. All other Super Max locations including Salinas, Watsonville, Gonzales, Prunedale and Greenfield are also available to marketers to place full color advertisements printed directly onto the belt.
“To create an image for our advertising clients as well as grocery store property owners that will leave a lasting impact on the consumers is our goal.” Scott White, CEO Devlin Media. “Convey-Your-Ad™ allows the advertiser to reach consumers every day, right where they shop – in their grocery store. We want to ensure creative impact and product quality in all deployment phases of the Convey-Your-Ad™ system. Indoor Advertising can be employed effectively to target particular demographics with maximum return on investment.”
“The response has been amazing.” Mark Futch, CEO Super Max Discount Grocers “Our customers are stopping to take a look and want to know more about the conveyor belt and it gives our checkers another opportunity to engage the shopper at the point of purchase.”
Convey-Your-Ad™ offers multi-impact impression resulting in a high impact visibility rate to shoppers with exposure periods as long as several minutes; enabling advertising, branding, and other communication to reach the consumer at the point of purchase.
