Anyone else notice that there are more luxury clothing brands advertising on TELEVISION?
in the past few months i have seen Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, and many other luxury brand commericals on television. I have never noticed this before though…
is this a way for our government to raise our GDP …trying to get us into spending tons of money so that we don’t fall into a recession?
anyone else find it interesting?
like any of the commercials?
=P
jeebus and vale — good points!
Yes, I have been noticing that! Actually, I just commented to my dad the other night about how I’d never seen a commercial for Porsche before this one that they’ve been airing lately (I know it’s not luxury clothing, but it’s been a definite increase in advertising luxury everything) and he made a good point–these things are becoming more and more accessible to people based on income and payment plans that are available, and in the case of luxury clothes, people can always just put it on a credit card and pay it off later.
is television advertising to blame for obese kids?
I am doing a report on this topic and I wanted to get an idea of what adults think about this. feel free to share your thoughts.
No, advertising isn’t to blame. We always like to point the finger at somebody for all of our problems but the fact is we are responsible for our own bodies and how we choose to take care of it. With children, it’s up to their parents to teach them how to make good food choices and provide them with the right kinds of foods. Even the cafeteria food in some schools is very unhealthy. The only ones that can make sure kids are eating right is their parents. Once kids are old enough to have their own money and means of transportation, parents can’t always supervise their food choices anymore, so they have to be responsible for their own choices at that time.
Is television advertising during the Olympics out of control?
I have clocked 32 minutes of adverts in a one hour session of watching. I have eight different channels covering the olympics and at any given time more than half are in commercial mode. Has the Olympic committee become so greedy and corrupt that they must plague us so? From now on I will just go to Youtube for hilites.
Try to realize it’s not exactly Olympic Committee (VANOC) that has decided to "plague you so", it is also the networks who choose to do so. Everybody makes more money with more advertisements.
Question for television advertising and/or marketing students and/or professionals?
How has the advent of devices such as Tivo or DVR recorders affected your trade?
Are you doing anything to combat them?
Lately I’ve noticed pop-up ads during my shows which is rather annoying.
I can’t remember the last time I watched a television commercial and I couldn’t be happier with my television viewing experience lately.
I’m sure advertisers don’t care for consumers like myself but I save so much time it’s ridiculous.
I work in local broadcast TV. I scan articles now & then, but don’t track it; so this is from memory:
DVRs have not yet made the impact that everyone predicted, for 2 reasons:
1. The majority of time-shifted programming is NEVER watched, anyway! Last I heard, the figure was around 75%. So, most people who weren’t in front of their TVs when the program (& commercials) were live, still didn’t see it, just like they wouldn’t have if time-shifting didn’t exist.
2. Some 60% of DVR viewers DON’T skip most commercials, even though they have the technology. Plus, some will REWIND and watch a commercial that catches their eye!
So, you are currently the exception. Not to mention, there are still plenty of people viewing programs (and commercials) in real time; enough to subsidize your time-shifted, commercial-free viewing. That doesn’t mean nobody is thinking about the future: Phillips recently unveiled a system that would allow viewers to pay to skip commercials on their TV (no pay, no skip!) I know there are stories about it out there, but I haven’t bothered to read up on it yet; because I’m not convinced that’s the way to go.

What are the advertising creative tactives for television to making advertising?
Creative Tactics for Television: —
As with print ads, television commercials have several components which must work together to create the right impact and communicate the advertiser’s message.
1. Video—the video or visual elements are what is seen on the television screen. Decisions have to be made regarding the main focus of the visual such as the product, the presenter, action sequences, lighting graphics, color and other factors.
2. Audio—the audio portion of a commercial includes several elements such as voice, music and sound effects. Voices may be heard in several ways such as through the direct presentation of a spokesperson or as a dialogue or conversation among people in the commercial. A common method for presenting the audio portion of a commercial is through a voice-over whereby the message is delivered or action on the screen is narrated by the voice of an announcer who is not visible. A trend among major advertisers is to hire celebrities with distinctive voices to do the voiceovers for their commercials.
3. Music—a very important part of many television commercials is music which plays various roles and functions such as providing a pleasant background or helping create the appropriate mood or setting. IMC Perspective discusses how marketers use popular songs to help deliver their advertising messages. Another important musical element in both television and radio commercials is jingles, which are catchy songs about a product or service that usually carry the advertising theme and a simple message.

Hey do any one know where I can find some information on Controversial Television Advertising?

Need a thesis statement for a topic called Controversial television advertising?
A 1986 agreement with Walt Disney Productions allowed CCTV to import the cartoon Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, which quickly became a favorite among children’s programming. Mickey Mouse, however, managed to prove controversial. Some of the humor in the show was interpreted by the Chinese audience or censors as offensive. Meanwhile, several companies in China began to use images of the Disney characters to promote their own products, and pirating of these images continues today. Although a truce was reached with an agreement to allow the marketing of Disney memorabilia and the creation of a Chinese Mickey Mouse club, conflicts between the Chinese government and Disney over pirating and politics continue. On the other hand, the predominance of foreign advertising was highly controversial, and it was a target during the 1983 campaign against spiritual pollution. (107)
