how does an advertising agency price their work and bill hours?
Do ad agencies work by estimating the number of hours a project will take to complete, and then multiplying that by their hourly rate?
What is the standard rate in the advertising business? (im not talking about the Saachi and BBDO’s of the world, more like a smaller agency)
thanks
There are no hard and fast rules but there are two basic methods for charging clients: commission and fee.
The commission method will be a straight percentage of the media budget. The standard commission is 15% but the rate will vary depending on the depth of services provided and the size of the media budget. Very large advertisers will negotiate lower commission rates. Smaller advertisers will pay full rates. Any hard costs, such as studio time, talent, photography, printing and travel will be additional and may or may not be marked up.
For the fee model, the agency will estimate the hours required for a project and multiply by their blended hourly rate. They will then charge a monthly retainer fee at one twelfth of the estimated amount. The more efficient will provide periodic updates and highlight any variations from the original estimate that may result in adjustments.
what are some job titles working at an advertising agency?
So i am planning to double major in marketing and graphic design, i was wondering what jobs i could get at an advertisng agency with those two majors. it would help a lot if you could give me a job titles and description.
Creative Director, Copywriters, Art Directors, Production Artist, Web Design, Account Management, Media Services…
The best place to look for what’s out there is to look at ad agencies in nearby cities, or a good one to look up is www.richardsgroup.com, who have several large corporate accounts.
Hope this helps!

How do I approach an Advertising Agency?
I and a partner have started a film/video production company and we would like to be a production company an Ad Agency is either partnered with or one they will consider for bids. How do I go about doing this? Should I just get in contact with them? Is there something I should say, any specific lingo? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
See source below on how you can boost your production company by having your website optimized in the search engines.
You can contact them anytime you want.

What degree would I need for the Creative Department in an advertising agency?
I am currently taking classes for a graphic design major. I am wanting to work in an advertising firm eventually and am wondering which degree would be better to achieve this goal. Also, what is the outlook for graphic designers/ creative department?
Definitely take advertising or marketing courses, as a minor if you can. I have worked with designers who could make pretty ads or web sites but missed the whole point of what we were trying to sell. I think it’s easier to get in to more places as a graphic designer than as a marketing grad. You can also freelance easier.
LeBron James “Chalk” Commercial for Nike Zoom LeBron VI
http://www.NiceKicks.com –
This Thanksgiving holiday Nike will debut its latest television commercial, Chalk, which features basketball star LeBron James. The 30 and 60-second U.S. television spots draw its inspiration from LeBrons pre-game ritual of tossing talcum powder into the air at the scorers table before each home and away game. The pre-game ritual of LeBron has become a symbol of the ultimate Just Do It moment.
The ad campaign, produced in cooperation with Portland, Ore.-based advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy is part of Nikes integrated marketing and communication support for LeBrons latest signature sneaker the Zoom LeBron VI. The ad will begin airing on Thanksgiving Day during the nationally televised pro football games. It will run on major networks and cable channels including ESPN, ABC, Fox, CBS, BET and MTV. The campaign will also be featured on nikebasketball.com.
In addition to LeBron James, the commercial also features cameo appearances by basketball players Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy, Daniel Gibson, Anderson Varejao, J.J. Hicks and platinum recording hip-hop artist Lil Wayne.

What are the pros and cons of being an Account Manager in an advertising agency?
I’m interested in becoming an Account Manager in advertising. I work in marketing communications, but on the client-side, so it would be a big change to go to the vendor-side. What’s involved? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Possible pros. would be; more money, more experience, look good on your resume. Cons.; being hounded for bills to be paid and not having enough money to meet all your payments on time (having to make excuses why accounts are not paid) and not having any authority over this, having a boring job, stuck in an office all the time, not much chance of advancement, being a negitive person to deal with. I would . stick to marketing but take it a step further. Do a course or step up in jobs. S.T. QLD Aust.
Can anyone recommend an advertising agency in Bristol?
I ideally want a fully integrated agency who can deal with radio, print and digital advertising. I previously used a London based agency, but the distance proved somewhat of a pain as I had to regularly commute up to visit them. My company is Bristol based, although we operate on a national level.
Many thanks
I used to manage a Cardiff based company but we used a Bristol based ad agency. They were called Taylor and Taylor (www.taylorandtaylor.co.uk). They used to be based in Clifton, but that was a couple of years ago. We, like you wanted an agency that could cover all aspects of our marketing and advertising and these guys did a great job.
