What is there to know about the advertising and graphic design industry?

Posted on March 2nd, 2010 by admin in advertising | 1 Comment »

I’m graduating high school and hoping to pursue a career in advertising.

I’m doing this summer program at the fashion institute of technology for advertising and graphic design, they suggested for us to know more about the industry.

Anyone can give me links and tips?
what is there to know?

You’re asking what there is to know about the advertising and graphic design industry?

Well, for starters they’re two interrelated industries, not one.

How much does your business rely on advertising?

Posted on March 1st, 2010 by admin in advertising | 5 Comments »

I just started a business which is not doing well. I have not done a lot to advertise as it is expensive. How much does a new business need to rely on advertising?

You can have the best product or greatest service in the world, but if nobody knows it’s there, you’re going broke for a living.

Marketing and promotion are critical to any business success and growth.

Try this:

Create a billboard web site – a website that describes your services and products and allows buyers to buy on line.

If you’re only after local business, Google offers a lot of local search options. Just add your address to the keywords.

You can build a good-looking website using templates. Just add copy. Add a free checkout like osCommerce, open a Paypal account and start hyping the website through traditional marketing outlets.

For example, use the classifieds in the local newspaper with nothing but your URL. It piques curiosity. Once the visitor is on site, that’s where the sale is made.

Put your URL on all stationery and other paper associated with the business.

Use local cable to advertise your business and URL. True, you can get 100 30 second spots on a rotating schedule at $5 a spot. You can even pick the channels where the adverts will appear.

And make sure your site’s URL appears in text on screen throughout the spot.

Volunteer to write a column for the local newspaper. These outlets are dying for content. You might even get paid.

You need buzz, excitement, and ultimately WOM – word of mouth – marketing.

Good luck with the biz,

How much do you think campaigning and advertising affects how you vote?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin in advertising | 10 Comments »

1. Presidential candidates nearly always do worse in states where they don’t campaign than states where they do.

2. I’ve read that Obama’s gains have been at least partially due to the effectiveness of his campaigning and advertising as compared to Clinton’s.

3. There are so many newspaper articles about how important raising money is for a political campaign to be successful.

So how much do you think it affects your vote? And if you say it doesn’t, why do you think campaigning and advertising have so much influence on elections?

Typically it has no effect at all on my vote, since all of the candidates tend to try the same tricks so I hate them equally. Both campaigning and advertising serve one purpose alone. That purpose is to win your vote. It is not to give you an accurate picture of their plans and policies. it’s to focus only on the information needed to win votes.

I just don’t understand why it works. Do people not realize that politicians aren’t completely honest in ads and while campaigning? I’d much rather just look up the candidate’s past history and future plans and ideas on my own to decide.

Do those little sponsor advertising spots found on sport uniforms/cars really work?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin in advertising | 3 Comments »

I always thought that the whole thing amounted to a company giving money away for nothing (having a company’s logo represented in some random spot). How about how they have like 100 baseball card-sized logos stuck on one spot of a car, that wouldn’t be seen so well while the car is running.

Why does Coke, Budweiser, or say McDonalds even need to spend anymore on advertising? Is it only a scheme to keep ad agencies guaranteed employent? I mean its unlikely coke or any of the top ten companies would ever lose ground as far as sales. Right?
Can someone break it dwon in #’s & sales…What is an example of a cinderella story where some athelete won something and the sponsors revenue skyrocketed?

Is there a textbook case where the negative acts of a sponsored athelete shut that company down (comsumer product item)?

Hi There,

Its the idea of getting extra free publicity that is often available during sporting events. Photographers and media camera tend to feature sports idols in their uniform. People being people will idolise the stars and they will look at who is sponsoring what.

Most of the time it does not directly translate into sales but rather will lead to sales. The brand recall factor will help. Look at F 1 , Warsteiner beer is not sold everywhere in the world but since it is one of the main sponsors for F1 McLaren , Its penetration into other areas in the world is easier.

Johnny Walker whiskey sales have been improving since it sponsored F1 too. The are accorded status as official partner and this can be used in their merchandise.

Even Nasa allows some product to mention that it is being used by NASA.

As far as top ten company will lose ground if the don’t sponsor, it is more likely that they competition will gain ground that they are worried about.

Moreover , its all business expenses that can be tax deductable.

I hope this answers help you to see the other side of the fence.

BTW if it doesn’t work, why the fuss about keeping ciggarettes ads away from sports :)
Good Luck

Robbie Williams-Advertising space

Robbie Williams – Advertising space good version, high quality.

Songtext:
What was in your heart
When it stopped going
The whole world shook
A storm was blowing through you

Waiting for God to stop this
And up to your neck in darkness
Everyone around you was corrupted
Saying somethin’

There’s no dignity in death
To sell the world your last breath
They’re still fighting over
Everything you left over

I saw you standing at the gates
When Marlon Brando passed away
You had that look upon your face
Advertising space

And
No one learned from your mistakes
We let our profit s go to waste
All that’s left in any case
Is Advertising space

Through your eyes
The world was burning
Please be gentle
I’m still learning
You seemed to say
As you kept turning up

They poisoned you with compromise
At what point did you realise
Everybody loves your life
But you ahahh

Special agent for the man
Through watergate and vietnam
No one really gave a damn
Did you think the CIA did

I saw you standing at the gates
When Marlon Brando passed away
You had that look upon your face
Advertising space

And
No one learned from your mistake
We let our profits go to waste
All that’s left in any case
Is Advertising space ooooohh

I saw you standing at the gates
When Marlon Brando passed away
You had that look upon your face
Advertising space

No one learned from your mistakes
We let our profits go to waste
All that’s left in any case
Is Advertising space

I’ve seen your daughter
Man shes cute
I was scared but I wanted to
Boy she looks a lot like you

What are some good advertising ideas for a massage therapist?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin in advertising | 1 Comment »

My girlfriend is a licensed massage therapist and just started her own business. She needs advise on advertising. What are some tips she could use? What should she do?

Suggestions:
1. She should join an online forum for massage therapists she can pick up a lot of ideas there. (e.g. www.massage.meetup.com and choose her location from there)
2. She should also join industry associations or log into their websites so she can subscribe to their newsletters and feeds. (e.g. AMTA, NCMTCB, etc.)

Hope this helps a little.

How does the role of advertising differ in industrial and consumer advertising?

Posted on February 21st, 2010 by admin in advertising | 3 Comments »

What is the role of advertising?
What is the role of industrial advertising?
What is the role of consumer advertising?
How do they both differ?

THIS IS NOT A CATCH-ALL ANSWER, MERELY A GUIDELINE
1. to inform, create interest and to ultimately induce a consumer to finalize a pruchase decision
2. among other things including all of the above, but the audience is highly specialized and holds prior knowledge of your product, concept, etc.
3. Consumer advertising focuses more on broadcasting a message to the widest audience posisble.
4. Audience is main difference, also the medium. Consumer will try to find a larger audience in an attempt to create sales via mass media. Industrial mostly focuses on smaller audience in advertisiments within specific trade magazines, locations, programs, etc.

How much does advertising cost on average for a real estate agent?

Posted on February 19th, 2010 by admin in advertising | 4 Comments »

Whats the average cost for advertising a house so that it can be sold on the market?

There is no answer to your question. Some houses remain unsold for much longer periods than do others, and thus cost far more in repetitive advertising to procure buyers. Quality advertising, however, is expensive. Many agents maintain websites on which to display listings to potential buyers, and agencies themselves mostly have similar websites for all properties listed. As well, there is newspaper and real estate guide advertising, some TV advertising on ‘local homes for sale’ channels, plus the costs of MLS and www.realtor.com exposure. It all adds up.

How do you start out in an advertising career?

Posted on February 15th, 2010 by admin in advertising | 1 Comment »

I have a student who is serious about getting into advertising – he has a degree but would go back to school to study if need be. What kind of trainings should he look for, or in what area of advertising is it easiest to break into?

If your student wants to break into the creative side of advertising, tell him that he should go to a "portfolio school." He’ll be able to refine his creative skills and leave with a "book" that will be his resume to get a creative job at an advertising agency or at an in-house advertising department.

If he wants to break into account management or media, then I would suggest he start in advertising sales. Tell him to start at a newspaper or radio station, or anywhere selling advertisements. Eventually he is going to make contacts that will get him into an advertising agency if he wants to, or maybe he’d like staying in sales.

Wish him good luck for me!
